SILENCE THE STIGMA

ADDICTION AWARENESS OF STEBEN COUNTY

Our group started out as a chapter of a group out of Pennsylvania called Recovery Revolutions, but due to unforeseen circumstances we decided to leave that group and form a group in Addison.  We were simply a support group looking to help addicts and their families. We continued to hear about overdoses happening in PA, in other counties throughout NY, and then we heard of one happening in Steuben County.  That was enough!  We reevaluated our group and the true goals.  While we do still hold support meetings for addicts both active and in recover, as well as their families, and anyone that wants to help or learn about addiction, we are looking to expand our horizons.  We are currently seeking to become a non-profit organization in hopes to gain more resources to get the word out there that together we can silence the stigma surrounding addiction.

Support group for families, friends, addicts and persons in recovery

Where– At the fire hall in Addison, NY

1 Tuscarora St

Addison, NY 14801

When– Every Wednesday evening at 6:30 p.m.

Who– We are the Addiction Awareness of Steuben County support group. We are a group for addicts, friends and families of addicts (drug and/or alcohol related), and general community that would like to be educated and support the family and addicts inside and outside our walls.

What– The goal of our group, AASC, is to bring awareness to our community, as well as throughout Steuben County and New York State about addiction and recovery. We want to show you that we are here to support you. We also want to break the stigma and prove that we can and DO recover from this deadly disease.

How– We need to come together as a community to change the way the world views people with addictions. Addiction is a disease that affects all of us in society in one way or another. It is time to break the stigma and silence surrounding addiction and bring hope through awareness, education, support and change.

Main Goal:

Create a safe environment and give support to struggling and recovering Addicts. Bring  awareness to the drug epidemic in our community and surrounding areas. As well as, educate people on how to help a loved one that is an Addict who is looking for help.  We as a community want to improve the quality of life.
